I do think in part it depends on how long story is--obviously if it's long enough to have to split it's already pretty long, but if the limit is 10,000 words and you have an 11,000 word story, you're going to split it into 5,500 word parts and then it's more your own choice. If it splits at a decent cliffhanger I say wait until the next day to post, but if the fic's been split for the sake of the word count and it's not HUGELY long, it could all go in one day as far as I'm concerned.
If it's a 20,000 word monster though, it might be best to post it over two days regardless. I think having to wait a week between parts should only be done if it's really long and has a good breaking point. That builds anticipation, but I'm just happy to get to read your fics any way you choose to post them. :P
Ah, that's a good point I hadn't thought about. I tend to have two different reasons for splitting: either because I want to post as a serial or as you say purely because it's too long for one post.
