My grades on my Creative Writing course have been dropping since January so I emailed my tutor asking for advice. I wasn't expecting much but I stupidly thought oh... I don't know, she might point out some weakness I had or some hint of what they were looking for. So what words of wisdom did my helpful tutor have?

'attempt something that you absolutely love'

That's it? That's my help? Thanks for that. Worked so damn well with my poetry, that I loved and was, in fact, my worst result.

I would email back and ask specifically if she could highlight any weaknesses, but I'm not really sure there's any point.

I wonder if she even connects names to the work submitted. I mean honestly, she could have said that to ANYone, including strangers on the street. :P Kind of sounds like she couldn't be arsed to flip back through your assignments and come up with something constructive--bah! She really does suck.

That hadn't occurred to but yeah it really is the vaguest kind of happy-clappy nonsense. Nobody sets out to write stuff they don't like FFS but if you wait around trying to find something you love you'd never get anything done.
