I'm digging the Matt spoiler too. And that got me thinking about the photo Grunny posted on his twitter around holloween where he looks like he's been on a three day bender. At first I thought Grunny was pulling a holloween prank but that could be the episode where he infiltrates the carnival.

He could be posing as a roustabout doing odd jobs around the carnival like painting and such.

Or maybe Bennet put Matt out as bait. Knowing that since Samuel has his files he couldn't resist having a powerful and troubled Special like Matt in his camp. And having lost Syler, Samuel takes the bait.
