I was in ASDA looking at DVDs earlier - for some reason my town has 7 card shops and NO HMV/Virgin Megastore so for DVDs, ASDA and Tesco are it - and they had 'V - the series' in there.

'V' is a pretty much a textbook definition of the law of decreasing returns. 'V - The Original Mini-series' was a striking, if somewhat heavy handed, sci-fi allegory that took Nazi Germany as it's touchstone. 'V- The Final Battle'  lost quite a bit of the humanity and cleverness but was still fascinating and a damn sight better than a lot of the sci-fi of the time. Finally there was 'V: The Series' which... well. On the plus side it had Lane Smith as about the best amiable, conniving, smart, bad guy you could hope for. And a really peculiar running joke at the expense of the British Royal Family. Apart from that well, all you have to do is look at the back of the DVD where Elizabeth - a human/alien hybrid - is described as 'half-alien and half-spaceling.'

Spaceling

And that's when I put the DVD back because, no matter how much I'd like to complete my collection, no way am I buying something with 'spaceling' written on the back. Not unless it's some sort of awesome spoof.
