Okay, now someone is just messing with me. I'm trying to be good and write up notes for an essay instead of writing fic and what do I find lurking in the set book?

'Within this structure of international deals in set the smaller-scale but still important late medieval chivalric idea of 'ransom'. Essentially this meant that if someone surrendered to you on the battlefield, you were able, once the battle was over and you had shepherded your prisoner safely away - to negotiate a ransom payment with his family for his release... ransomable prisoners were a valuable capital asses assets and thus tended to be cosseted. Charles Duke of Orleans, whom the real Henry V captured at Agincourt in 1415, was only released in 1440.'

Cosseted prisoners? Kept for YEARS?

Text books aren't supposed to give me plotbunnies damn it.

ETA because no, asses and assets are not the same :P
